Austin and New Orleans

Hey, sorry for the delays, right now we are in New Orleans, but we stopped in Austin and visited and old Vermont friend Max. Max was working at a rock show for the band spoon, and let shawn and i in, they were a little boring, but after that show we went to a bar downtown and saw the punk band NoBunny, who were awesome! Then next day we went swimming with Max and some of his pals at a pool, and ate some really good cheap tacos! thanks Max!
After Austin (really cool city for Texas!) we drove the suburban box store sprawl strip around houston, which lasted for 2 hours, and finally got out of Texas! We rolled into New Orleans at sunset Friday night and parked the bus at Ingrid and Dwight's house in mid city.   Ingrid is having a big show in the back yard on wednesday and Shawn is going to play a set.  we are planning to stay in New Orleans for the rest of Jazz Fest and hustle up some tourist dollars.   Yesterday was Shawns birthday!  the big two seven, Rock Star tragic death age, better watch out! We went for a long bike ride and hung out at Plan B fixing up our bikes then played it cool on the back porch with watermelon drinks, kids and dogs, and bbq.  Today we got drive-thru daiquiris!  they made us feel kinda sick.  hmmm, it sounds like such a good idea.  I wonder where it went wrong...  it is really great to be in this beautiful brokedown balmy city with friends and places to go. While we were riding through the French Quarter on friday we saw a kid playing good rhythm guitar and stopped to listen.  turns out it was an old band mate of Shawn's from the olden days, Sam.  we'll go see his show tomorrow night.  The neighbors have a pool!  what more can i say.

Lunch in Mexico

Hello all, since we last posted we left Tucson, and are now in Western Texas, Maybe in Austin by tonight.  Tucson was really nice, Shawn played a show at Revolutionary Grounds, a Leftist bookstore/coffeeshop on 4th Ave (the "bohemian" street), and we also hooked her bike up with really cool riser bars at a community bikeshop called BICAS, they make recycled art and bikes out of old bikes and have a really ACTIVE welding shop! recommended!
We went thru New Mexico without really stopping and went past El Paso and pulled off the highway to have lunch in MEXICO! I have never been there (can you believe it?) so we found a crossing by a small town called Guadalupe, parked on the american side, walked over the bridge, and explored a bit. the town definitely got alot of its money by selling pharmacuticals, and eyeglasses and whatever else to americans, but still had a wonderful community feel, people blasting music and talking in the street. the buildings were all painted brightly with writing all over and the church was beautiful. we had mole burritos, and fruit with chile and corn on the cob with cheese on it. we then gave the rest of the money away and walked back over the border to the bus (maybe we can go back for the winter!).  today, we are still driving through Texas, and might get to Austin tonight. right now we are in Sonora, more like "Snore-a". its really the greenest town(trees and grass)  we've seen since california and has a real old american small town "downtown", with historical buildings, like the jail! and Wi-Fi! we gotta get back on the road. peace!

Tucson!

we arrived in Tucson this afternoon and wandered to the Revolutionary Grounds cafe where we talked to Joy and she said I could play there tomorrow night.  also told us to check out open mic at Epic cafe.  So we are.  I go on in about an hour.  The competition is visciously jack johnson.  Nick says Christian but I think they're just american.  so that's Tucson so far but we will be here at least through tomorrow night.  We have big plans to go to the bank, sneak into the UofAZ gym showers, busk, and eat food.  Maybe even peanutbutter!!!!!  Also we hear that Anarchists live here.  maybe we'll meet some.  but really we are glad to be in an oasis after the sad state of highways and highway towns.  truckers rule the world!  and they only like chain stores and beef jerky apparantly!  (we failed to photograph the three foot slimjim that we found at a truckstop last night) it won't happen again.  More pictures soon.
